What is a project?
A project is one or more initiatives of varying scope, carried out to achieve specific objectives within a defined time and resource frame. It can be a clearly defined task, but it can also be an effort undertaken to achieve one or more goals. In marketing, the work is often aimed at and to achieving the customer’s objectives within parameters agreed in collaboration with the customer.
Organizing a project
The project’s objectives and framework determine how the project should be organized. In digital marketing, project size can vary significantly. In some projects, it may be relevant to involve multiple specialists and cross-functional expertise, as well as advisory services and project management throughout the process. In other cases, the specialists themselves can manage the project, with other roles providing support or follow-up as needed. In these situations, the project manager has a coordinating role and ensures that the project stays within its defined framework.
In the actual project work, this is often carried out within established and well-defined routines. For example, if a customer purchases product “x”, the set routines are followed, while the process is adapted to the customer’s starting point and objectives.
Project management
Project management takes place to a greater or lesser extent from the beginning to the end of a project. Effective project management is essential to ensure that deliverables meet expectations. There are various ways to secure good project management, for example through the use of project management tools. In addition, a solid structure and clear communication from the start are always necessary.
Summary
A project can be defined in different ways, but within digital marketing the work is often directed towards achieving the client’s goals. These goals are developed in collaboration with the client, and the framework for the project is defined based on them. The organization and execution of the project are carried out with these goals and frameworks as the starting point.
