What is the marketing mix?
The marketing mix, or “marketing mix”, is a strategy companies use to identify some of the most important elements of their marketing plan. The strategy consists of four main elements, also known as the four Ps. These four Ps represent Product, Price, Place (distribution), and Promotion, and they form the foundation for how the company plans to reach its customers and achieve success in the market.
The four Ps
- Product covers everything related to the physical product or the service the company offers. This includes everything from appearance, design and features to quality.
- Price. This P refers to the pricing strategy the company should have for what they are going to sell. Here you need to determine what kind of price to set in order to maximize profitability, but you should also include payment options and any discounts/sales.
- Place. Put simply, place is about how the product or service will be distributed to customers.
- Promotion. Promotion covers all activities related to promoting the product/service.
Together, these four Ps form a clear marketing strategy aimed at meeting customers’ needs and wants.
